Starting Research in Uda Walawe National Park
We started our collaborative research in Uda Walawe National Park today, its a very special place with almost 1000 Asian elephants in a park not much larger than our study site of Samburu/Buffalo Springs in Kenya. The elephants are so calm and friendly to be around, its a great privilege to be spending the next month here seeing if Asian elephants “know about” honey bees. We’re doing research here in collaboration with Dr Shermin de Silva’s team, Cornell University PhD student Michael Pardo, Peradeniya University and the Sri Lankan Department of Wildlife Conservation.
