Botswana Beehive Fences
Dr Lucy King has visited Botswana numerous times to assist the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) on their World Bank GEF funded project “Northern Botswana Human-Wildlife Co-existence Project”.
The project aims to reduce human-elephant conflict (HEC) in 13 selected villages in three primary wetland areas in Botswana; The Okavango Delta Pan Handle

The project aims to reduce human-elephant conflict (HEC) in 13 selected villages in three primary wetland areas in Botswana;
HEC reduction activities include the introduction of chilli fences, early maturation seed varieties, kraaling and guard dogs to reduce livestock predation and beehive fences.
DWNP have selected 40 farmers to trial beehive fences within the three project areas and Dr King has been to each site to train up to 30 farmers and field officers at each site in construction and management of beehive fences.
